"I've no problems with Bipasha and Saif's..."

The past fortnight, rumour mills have been in overdrive churning out stories about the final nail in the coffin of John Abraham and Bipasha Basu’s relationship.

It started with John’s alleged proximity to actress Sheetal Menon (who, incidentally, is making her debut opposite Dino Morea in Bhram), then it was Bipasha’s sudden friendship with Race co-actor Saif Ali Khan.

Then there were stories that Basu’s former flame Dino Morea was trying to make a ‘comeback’ into her life.

Now, John Abraham has had enough. In a one-on-one with HiTLIST, he tells us that Bipasha and he are far from headed for splitsville.

For the record, are Bipasha and you together?

Yes, we are very much together. I’m currently shooting in Pondicherry and I am going to be stuck here for another month for Nagesh Kukunoor’s Aashayein. Bipasha is going to be joining me soon. This place is special to us as we did our first film together (Jism) here.

Rumours of your break-up have been circulating for some time now. Why didn’t you clarify this sooner?

In the past too, there have been rumours that we’ve spilt and we’ve denied them. After a point, we know we are together, so why should we give importance to rumours by denying them every single time? This time we decided not to react and hoped it would die a natural death.

So what made you change your mind?

It’s because our relationship is special and all this loose talk is tarnishing its sanctity. That’s disturbing. A man can take false things written about him but a woman’s dignity is important. I am doing this for Bipasha’s sake and I speak for both of us when I say that we are very much together. She is a special girl and means the world to me. I want people to stop speculating about us now.

Who do you think is behind these rumours?

I really don’t know. Bipasha and I are simple, straightforward people so I have no idea why anyone would try to bring us down this way. It’s not about money, fame, success or popularity. We just want respect as a couple, and that’s why I have decided to clear all these rumours.

What about Bipasha’s friendship with Saif?

I’ve no problems with Bipasha’s and Saif’s friendship. I trust her completely. I would be a very small man to question her friendship with other men.

And rumours of her ‘return’ to Dino?

I know Dino and he’s a really nice guy. He has known Bipasha for many years and they are very fond of each other. That’s all.

What about rumours of your affair with Sheetal Menon?

Totally untrue. I don’t even know Sheetal.

Don’t you think it strange that Bipasha is being linked to Dino at the same time that his leading lady (in Bhram) is being linked to you?

Yes. But stranger things have happen. I don’t want to spend my time thinking of why this is happening. I just want to state on record that Bipasha and I are together. In the end, that’s all that matters.
